NEW YORK — CBS News says its former weatherman Mark McEwen will return to “The Early Show” for his first nationally televised weathercast since a near-fatal stroke five years ago.

The network says McEwen’s visit Saturday will include an interview focusing on his difficult recovery.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A federal judge on Thursday declared the U.S. military’s ban on openly gay service members unconstitutional and said she will issue an order to stop the government from enforcing the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy nationwide.

U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips said the ban violates the First and Fifth Amendment rights of gays and lesbians. “Don’t ask, don’t tell” prohibits the military from asking about the sexual orientation of service members but requires discharge of those who acknowledge being gay or are discovered engaging in homosexual activity, even in the privacy of their own homes off base.

Meteorologist Faith Borden says the 0.01 inch of rain that fell Tuesday at McCarran International Airport was the first time more than a trace was recorded at the official weather station since April 22.

Las Vegas Gets First Rain Since April — Barely

At least two were shot just outside of Mumford High School in Detroit this afternoon, Fox Detroit is reporting.

Police have confirmed two Mumford students were shot. The incident took place on the first day of school for Mumford High, located on Detroit’s near-northwest side.

The shooting apparently involved one boy and one girl. Some 2,134 students attend the school, which offers grades 9-12.
